My Vision
Several years ago I visited the ancient city of Pompeii. It was there that I realized I could recognize what the buildings were from having been a planner all my life. Mixed use, residences, businesses and municipal buildings aligned along wide pedestrian friendly roads. Side walks, curbs, speed bumps (no racing your chariot here), clearly visible intersections and a logical pattern of streets.
I believe that the planners of the city of Pompeii faced the same problems and solutions that planners face today. Good planning will, in fact, last a thousand years.
